BRANTFORD, ON – The Brantford Red Sox, proud members of the Intercounty Baseball League (IBL), are excited to announce the signing of versatile infielder/catcher Lucas Bateman (Waterloo, ON) for the 2025 season.
Bateman is currently in his senior year at Rochester Christian University (NAIA), where he’s hitting .277 (23-for-83) with 7 doubles, 2 triples, 3 home runs, 21 RBIs, and 2 stolen bases. Known for his versatility, Bateman has played second base, third base, and catcher at the collegiate level.
Prior to this season, Bateman posted a collegiate career batting average of .285 (86-for-302), with 16 doubles, 6 home runs, 55 RBIs, and 21 stolen bases.
While 2025 marks his first season as a full-time Red Sox player, Bateman is no stranger to the club. He previously spent three seasons as a junior call-up, appearing in 35 IBL games and hitting .259 (22-for-85) with 3 doubles, 11 RBIs, and 3 stolen bases.
“Lucas will have a great opportunity in 2025 to showcase his skills in the IBL,” said Red Sox General Manager Jeff Lounsbury. “His versatility is a great asset. It will be exciting to see how he handles increased responsibilities this season.”
The Brantford Red Sox, established in 1911, are one of the most historic franchises in the IBL with 15 league championships. Admission to all 2025 home games is free.
